A nossa luta não é contra carne

O último show da nossa turnê aconteceu na House of Rock, em Kouvola, Finlândia. Nós todos logo percebemos que esse seria o ambiente mais pesado até aquele momento. As bandas que haviam tocado na noite anterior eram envolvidas com ocultismo e magia negra. O vocalista da banda, cujo nome faz referência à maldição, fez o show usando uma máscara de ritual ocultista.

Quando chegamos, já havia um bom número de pessoas lá, bebendo. Uma mistura interessante de motoqueiros, góticos e metaleiros, e muitos deles se vestiam mais à caráter do que nós da banda! Durante a checagem de som, alguns começaram a gritar ofensas contra nós sem nenhum motivo aparente. Mas mesmo nessa atmosfera tensa, sentíamos a presença de Deus. Era como se estivéssemos prestes a entrar numa batalha, em que Deus mostraria o seu poder.

Assim que subimos no palco, as pessoas já se juntaram na frente e logo na primeira música, um segurança teve de contê-las. O público realmente se engajou na nossa performance, mas havia muitos elementos estranhos ao mesmo tempo e, tanto a nossa atriz, quanto a nossa fotógrafa foram ameaçadas fisicamente ao longo do show. Ainda assim, nós nos sentíamos cheios do poder de Deus e fizemos o show com toda energia. Durante a crucificação, a impressão que dava era que o local tinha sido tomado por uma manifestação demoníaca. Um rapaz e uma menina, usando pentagramas, se aproximaram do palco e começaram a dançar gritando e girando em círculos. Mas quando eu me levantei no momento da ressurreição, o barulho tinha cessado, os que haviam causado confusão tinham ido embora e os que ficaram estavam em silêncio, ouvindo. Um dos motoqueiros sentiu-se muito tocado e aceitou oração.

Um dos encontros mais significativos da noite foi com um rapaz que havia estado no nosso show na noite anterior àquela. Ele tinha assistido ao show sob o efeito de cogumelos, mas oramos por ele mesmo assim e pedimos por um problema nas costas que ele tinha. Depois de assistir ao nosso show pela segunda vez na House of Rock, ele veio conversar comigo de novo. Estava visivelmente tocado e explicou que se sentia estranho: ‘Ontem eu pensei que fosse o efeito dos cogumelos, mas hoje eu ainda me sinto diferente’. Disse também que a dor nas costas havia sumido, como também a dor do seu coração.  Assim que orou aceitando a Jesus, ele começou a se abrir e confessar coisas que tinha cometido no passado. Ficou claro que ele entendeu que Jesus estava lhe oferecendo perdão. Ele levou uma Bíblia e ficou com o contato do membro de uma das igrejas locais.

O tempo que passamos na Finlândia foi incrível e agora a nossa turnê chega ao fim. Essa viagem causou um impacto além de nossas expectativas, tanto nas turnês, quanto na igreja local e na nossa própria vida. Ao chegar ao Brasil, nós não seremos a mesma equipe que partiu um mês atrás. Obrigada por ter andado conosco e orado por nós ao longo do caminho. Ainda precisamos das suas orações! Nós temos shows nos aguardando no Brasil e outra viagem programada para novembro ao Chile.  Fique ligado! 

Our fight is not against flesh

Our last show of the tour was at the House of Rock in Kouvola, Finland. We all realized this was going to be the hardest environment so far. The bands playing the night before were into occultism and black magic. The lead singer of a band called something like ‘the cursed ones’ performed wearing an occultist ritual mask.

When we arrived there were already a good number of people sitting and drinking. An interesting mix of motorcycle gangs, goths and metalheads, many of them had better costumes then we did! During our sound check, people were shouting abuse at us for no apparent reason. But in this tense atmosphere we felt God’s presence. We all felt like we were about to enter into a battle, where God would show his power.

As we came on stage people gathered to the front, and right from the first song the security had to hold people back. The crowd really got into the show, but there were various bad elements there, and both our actress and photographer were physically threatened during the show. But we all felt full of God’s power and performed with full energy. During the crucifixion it sounded like the place erupted in demonic manifestation. A guy and a girl wearing pentagrams started dancing in front of the stage in circles and screaming. But by the time I stood up after resurrecting the noise had gone, the troublemakers had left and those remaining were quiet, listening. I preached and invited people to talk to us. Various came over to us. A motorcycle gang member was very emotional and accepted prayer.

One of the most meaningful encounters was with a guy who had attended our show the day before. He had been high on mushrooms at the previous show, but we’d prayed for him and specifically for a back problem he had. He came to me after watching the show this second time and said he wanted to talk. He was visibly moved and explained that he felt very strange: ‘Yesterday I thought it was the effect of the mushrooms, but today I continue to feel different’. He explained that the pain in his back was gone, and also the pain in his heart! After praying to accept Jesus he started opening up and confessing things he had done in the past. It was clear he understood that Jesus was offering him forgiveness. He took a Bible and contact info of one of the local church members.

Our time in Finland has been amazing and now the tour comes to an end. This trip has had an impact beyond our expectations in the shows, for the local church and in our own lives. As we arrive home in Brazil we are not the same team that left a month ago. Thank you for walking with us and praying for us on the way. We will still need your prayers! We have shows lining up back in Brazil, and another trip planned for November to Chile. Stay in touch!

Mais uma vez nossas expectativas foram superadas. O nosso show em Rovaniemi, que prometia ser vazio por ser em dia de semana, teve um público de 80 pessoas, aproximadamente.  Muitos deles eram membros das igrejas locais, que tiveram sua fé renovada e se sentiram encorajadas a encontrar formas criativas de falar de Jesus no seu meio. Ao final da performance,  houve respostas surpreendentes. Uma delas foi a de uma artista, chamada Aino, que estava na cidade para exibir seu trabalho, baseado no tema da meditação. Conforme nos contou, sua experiência espiritual se resumia à escola de confirmação da igreja luterana (correspondente ao que os católicos brasileiros chamam de crisma. A igreja luterana é a oficial na Finlândia), que nunca expôs a possibilidade de um relacionamento pessoal com Deus. Ainda assim, Aino sempre buscou uma espiritualidade. Naquele dia, em especial, ela ouviu falar do show e foi com o intuito de dançar, mas quando ouviu a mensagem, sentiu que havia encontrado exatamente o que procurava. Recebeu oração das meninas da banda, aceitando a Jesus na sua vida e, no dia seguinte, participou à reunião promovida pela igreja que nos recebeu na cidade. 

Outras três pessoas também atenderam ao convite do Luke. Duas delas trabalham com a igreja luterana na escola de confirmação, mas assim como Aino, elas também não sabiam que podiam ter uma experiência pessoal com Deus. A menina que os acompanhava expressou sua compreensão da mensagem, apesar de ter dificuldades em acreditar que Deus se apresente por meio de um nome específico (Jesus). Ela recebeu oração e, ao final, disse ter se sentido extremamente leve. 

Deus não está trabalhando somente entre as pessoas que ouvem a mensagem do Alegorica, mas também entre os membros da banda. Um dos nossos vocais, o David, nos contou de uma imagem que ele teve já no final de um dos shows: enquanto os músicos tocavam os acordes que embalam o apelo final, ele viu um ser, que emitia muita luz, dançar entre o público. Mesmo que, aparentemente, as pessoas não esboçassem reação à mensagem durante o show, esse ser entrava nelas e as tocava. 

Não fazemos ideia das formas que Deus usa para se fazer conhecido. Às vezes, temos a impressão de que a mensagem que pregamos está sendo desprezada, ignorada ou rejeitada. Entretanto, a realidade espiritual atinge planos que escapam à nossa percepção natural e, assim, não vemos o Espírito Santo tocando as pessoas e dispersando de dentro delas sua escuridão existencial.    

Desde quinta-feira estamos na cidade de Kouvola, sul da Finlândia. Tocamos ontem ao ar livre, em um espaço ao lado do centro cultural da cidade. Enquanto estávamos fazendo o nosso show, acontecia um evento com bandas de tendências ocultistas (uma delas brasileira) no local em que vamos tocar hoje à noite. Aceitamos o desafio e fomos até esse evento para promover o nosso show, que terá o Espírito, que reina sobre todos os outros, como o grande convidado da noite. Continue orando por nós.
 

A party for Aino

Once again it was beyond our expectations. Our show in Roveniemi, which was supposed to have no people watching it as it was on a weekday, had an audience of around 80 people. Many of them were members of local churches, who had their faith encouraged to find creative ways of speaking about Jesus wherever they are. At the end of the performance, there were surprising responses. One of them involved an artist called Aino, who was in town to have an exhibition of her work about meditation. She told us that her spiritual experience, which was reduced to what the confirmation camp (religious school offered by the Lutheran Church -  Finland’s official church - to all its members) had taught her, never exposing to her the possibility of having a personal relationship with God. Still, Aino has always searched for a kind of spirituality. On that day, she heard about our show and went there to dance, but as soon as she stepped into the place and heard the message, it felt like she had found what she had always looked for. The girls of our band prayed for her and she accepted Christ into her life. On the following day, she took part in the meeting that the local church had together with us. 

Three other people responded to Luke’s invitation. Two of them work in the Lutheran Church at the confirmation camp and, just like Aino, both of them didn’t know they could have this close relationship with God. The girl who was with them totally understood what the message was about, but had difficulties to believe that God presents himself through Jesus. As she received prayer she described feeling a great lightness. 

God isn’t working only among those who come to hear the message, but also among Alegorica members. One of our singers, David, told us that, at the end of one of the shows, he had this image of a being shining brightly and dancing among the audience, and as it was doing so, the being would touch each person, even those who showed no reaction throughout the concert.

Sometimes we don’t perceive the ways God uses to make himself known to others. We tend to think that the message we’re preaching is being ignored or rejected. However, the spiritual reality reaches levels that go beyond our natural perception of things, and as a result, we can’t see the Holy Spirit touching people and dispersing the darkness in them.

Since last Tuesday we’re in Kouvola, south of Finland. We played last night outdoors next to the city cultural centre. At the same time of our show, there was this other event with bands with occultist tendencies (one of them, whose name is something similar to ‘The Cursed Ones’, is Brazilian) happening at this club where we’re playing at tonight. We went there to this club to promote our show, which will have the Holy Spirit, who reigns above all others, as the greatest guest of the evening. Keep praying for us.
