A night of miracles
(by Luke Greenwood & Luciana Mendes Kim)

As you may remember from our previous post, our organizer in Russia described the club we were playing at as ‘a house of murderers’. However, as soon as we arrived there, we felt great peace, and even the owner of the place said the vibe there was different. Even though claiming himself as an atheist, he was very open to us and agreed about us having two presentations in a row. By the time we would have our first show, there was an audience of about 80 people already.

During our first performance, some people reacted with sarcasm. However, their reaction didn’t stop a group of 10 people from stepping forward to receive prayer at Luke's invitation. Many others followed the group to the room next to the stage to hear more. One of them was a journalist that was there to write an article about the band. She couldn’t hold back her tears as she heard the message. After watching the second show, she was the first to step forward.

By the time of the second show, an audience of around 200 people were there. They crowded to the front to watch it, and just as it happened in the first time, some mocked during the performance. Once again, Luke invited those who wanted prayer to step forward. A group of about 25 people came, including many of those who were mocking. The people at the bar even clapped. The band led everyone to the spare room, which got packed! Everybody (some of whom hadn't responded to Luke's invitation) wanted to ask questions, to know more, and there were so many that there weren't enough translators. Dalila, one of our singers, mentioned that everything she saw happening reached beyond her faith: people who at first didn't sympathize with the band made a radical decision with open hearts. One of the guys couldn't contain his feelings and opened his heart to the band members (his words were recorded in an interview, but he was unable to finish because he was so emotional).

On the following day, Luke and the other members were called to the local church as four people who had attended the show the night before were there to hear more about the Gospel. One of them told them that, during the show, the emptiness inside him had been filled up, and he wanted to learn more. The owner of the club also wanted to know more about Jesus' message, which can reach anybody, anywhere.

Today is Tuesday and we have another show in Rovaniemi, Finland. We’ve been told that people don’t usually attend shows on weekdays. That’s why we ask you to pray for us, so that tonight can be an exception and many people may come to hear our message.

You can’t speak to the King in a place for pigs

It was one of the biggest battles I have ever been through: 3 days sleeping for only a few hours – sometimes in a bus, other times in a plane or at an airport somewhere. We overcame all sorts of troubles during our trip from Germany through Finland – a brief stop to get some equipment– and eventually arriving in Russia to have our first concert in Murmansk. Our bus broke down on the way, and we spent an entire night and half of the following day on a cold road, waiting for help. When at last we got to the club in Murmansk (a dark place with a very heavy vibe), there was this group preparing ropes tied to the roof, so they would perform some ‘body suspension’ (people hung by hooks pierced into the skin of their backs). During our show, an audience of about 50 people approached the stage and watched the performance very attentively.
Russia is still clearly a country marked by Communism, but nowadays it’s more open to experiencing spirituality.  We noticed from the audience a respect for God and were surprised by their positive response at the end of the show. I talked about how Jesus isn’t about religion, but that he’s alive, and we invited them to come and pray with us. Around 15 people responded to my invitation. We prayed for them and began to talk. The members from the band that had played just before us were very touched. One of them even mentioned that he felt himself very close to making a decision for Jesus, and that he would read the material we gave him as soon as he got home. Ania, our VJ, offered to pray for a girl she was talking to, and the girl said, ‘how can the King mingle with pigs in the pig stale?’. Ania, however, explained to her that it was exactly at such places that Jesus went to when he was among us, and it was for such people he had died.
Today we are in Apatity for our second concert. When we asked the organizer about the club we’ll be playing at, he said, ‘I have no respect for that place. It’s a house of murderers, an old casino’. But again: it’s exactly to places like these that Jesus would have gone. Therefore, our prayer is that he makes himself present there in a tangible way tonight. Pray for us.

Entra nessa? Mande o seu nome e o horário para luciana_mendes@hotmail.com. O relógio será dividido assim:

Domingo (manhã): Marcos Quagliato
Domingo (tarde): Janet
Domingo (noite): Fernanda Pinilha

E por aí vai...

Aguardamos o seu email. Valeu!

Hey guys,

After a long time getting ready for the tour (not without your help, of course), the time has finally come! The first concert will take place in the Manifest Festival, in Germany, on August 18. After that, we’ll head to Russia, where there will be three more concerts (one of them still to be confirmed. Please pray for that). In Finland, we’ll have an event in the North and two more in the Southern part. For the one in the North, we want to rent a cool but cheap concert house.
For all this to work, though, we need you. We’ll be creating here on the blog a ‘prayer clock’, which is a schedule where you can add your name on the day and time you can pray for us. The idea is to have people praying for the tour the whole time, from August 16 until September 3, nonstop. Are you in? If so, you can send your name and preferred time to luciana_mendes@hotmail.com.
This is how the ‘prayer clock’ schedule will look:

Sunday (morning): Marcos Quagliato
Sunday (afternoon): Janet
Sunday (evening): Fernanda Pinilha

Monday (morning): Marcos Quagliato
Monday (afternoon):Luciana Galvão, Janet
Monday (evening): Angela Braga, Andréia Rafaela Andrade, Fernanda Pinilha

Tuesday (morning): Marcos Quagliato, Becky Greenwoond

Wednesday (morning): Marcos Quagliato
Wednesday (afternoon): Luciana Galvão, Janet
Wednesday (evening): Fernanda Pinilha

Thursday (morning): Marcos Quagliato, Becky Greenwoond
Thursday (afternoon): Janet
Thursday (evening): Fernanda Pinilha

Friday (morning): Marcos Quagliato
Friday (afternoon): Luciana Galvão, Janet
Friday (evening): Fernanda Pinilha

Sarturday (morning): Marcos Quagliato

And so on…

Waiting for your contact. Thanks!
